Game of Thrones Episode 3: A Sword in the Darkness Review

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

In Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, House Forrester has not had the best luck. Many members of Forrester have died, and the rest struggle to keep the house alive. Since House Forrester is at such a low point, Telltale uses this to the advantage of placing extremely difficult decisions on the player.  A Sword in the Darkness has some tough decisions that may lead to the utter downfall of House Forrester.

Game of Thrones Episode 2: A Sword in the Darkness brings new life to the Gared’s tale. Gared swears allegiance to the Night’s Watch, an order that devotes their lives to guarding The Wall. But in order to save House Forrester, he must travel far beyond The Wall, meaning that he will go against the oath he made with the Night’s Watch. Gared’s plot line has become significantly more interesting, and I cannot wait to see where it takes us in the next episode.

This episode also delves deeper into the story of Mira, as her choices become more intense. Mira’s side of the story seems the most rooted in the Game of Thrones show and books. In this episode, we see Mira present at King Joffrey’s wedding. She also has interactions with Margaery Tyrell and Tyrion Lannister that are not rooted at all in any other material, so they were very engaging and full of surprises.

The highlight of A Sword in the Darkness has to be the action sequence with Asher and Drogon. Although Asher doesn’t make much of an appearance in this episode, this scene is a nice change of pace from the conversations and meaningful decisions that fill up most of Game of Thrones Episode 3.

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

Game of Thrones Episode 3: A Sword in the Darkness is the most engaging episode in the series. Telltale does a perfect job of including well-known characters from the show and books in Game of Thrones, just as they do in Tales from the BorderlandsThis episode is tense, and features a great action sequence. I can’t wait to see where the second half of Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series takes me. For all your Telltale Games coverage, keep it here on NextGenerationGamer!
