Splatoon Review

Nintendo’s newest Wii U exclusive Splatoon is an explosive and fun multiplayer shooter with unique concepts that set the game apart from the rest of the genre. In a world full of gritty shooters like Call of Duty, Splatoon is a breath of fresh air. It offers gamers a vibrant and extremely competitive third-person shooter experience. Splatoon is an incredible game with lots of replay value, and it is a must-have for Wii U owners.

Splatoon Review

Within my first match of Splatoon’s intense multiplayer, I found myself running around the map covering the entire course in paint from my gun. In Splatoon’s competitive mode, the goal is to cover the most terrain with your team’s color. It is extremely simple to keep track of who is in the lead, because all it takes it a quick glance at the gamepad, which offers an extremely helpful overhead map of the arena.

Splatoon Review

Each multiplayer match in Splatoon last about 3 minutes. In those three minutes, it is up to you to traverse around the grayish arena and cover it in all of the paint that you can! Splatoon’s multiplayer is frantic, fun, and frequently updated. Since the game has launched, Nintendo has added new items to the multiplayer and core game, such as their iconic NES Zapper gun. These free content updates are a step in the right direction, and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo adds to Splatoon next!

Splatoon Review

Splatoon’s single player half is an enjoyable experience. The campaign is just as energetic as the multiplayer, and it constantly adds new mechanics to keep things interesting. Splatoon’s campaign is fun, and is a great addition to the already outstanding multiplayer game. Splatoon’s hub, Inkopolis (pictured above), is a beautiful environment featuring different shops that allow you to improve your character by purchasing better clothes, shoes, and weapons. In the hub, you will also find other players who have left little lines of dialogue for you to read above their characters. Inkopolis is colorful and fun to explore.

Splatoon’s hub is also where the Splatoon Amiibo figures can be used. When exploring Inkopolis, I encountered a giant Amiibo box. It prompted me to put down one of the figures from the 3-pack. When I did, I was delighted to see that each figure unlocked 20 new levels in the game. These levels are a nice addition to the campaign and multiplayer, making Splatoon an all-around incredible gaming experience.

Splatoon Review

Splatoon is Nintendo’s newest powerhouse, delivering outstanding multiplayer, colorful visuals, an incredible single-player campaign, and a great use of the Amiibo figures. This game joins the ranks as one of the best titles available on the Wii U, bringing an unrivaled online multiplayer experience to the Wii U.
